All the girls of the town are all gathered around
To see the handsome meadow boy
And nobody knows why they hold their breath
When he comes round their way
Their flimsy barriers, he divides, without harm
And likewise their river, he equally charms
September sees him all alone, just a rolling stone
So come ye stout October winds
Come with all your power
Come with all your beauty blown
All the sweet leaves of September
And tho the hand of charity is gentle as a dove
still the handsome meadow boy, he never wants for love
he gives away all his secrets, that lay deep beneath the skin
and perhaps that’s why the girls all cry, and want to follow him
so come you stout october winds,
come with all your power
come with all your beauty blown, all the sweet leaves of september
and lying down in a northern town, with his face against the pane
he’s looking at those he left behind, to stand out in the rain
their faces changed or re-arranged, all because they could not run
they’re married to their dark haired girls and they’re bringing up their sons
his nothing is his everything he cannot change for all
he's living off a legacy that's left for those who fall
and every night he dreams a tear and in every one there's joy
though the clothes are thin and the chances slim for the handsome meadow boy

Combining original and traditional tunes on this release, Jim Ghedi has somehow escaped my notice until now. His stirring vocals, guitars and the harmonium, are supported by a quintet on double bass, violin, drums and percussion, as well as trumpet and flugelhorn. The lyrics are primarily dark, mostly focusing on social injustice and land inequity, and are passionately delivered by Jim’s expressive voice Nickie Harte Kelly

Thanks for the beautiful music Karine and Dave. it's been a while since I've felt so emotional listening to a new album. Every lyric is so beautifully supported by the piano parts. Laura-Beth Salter
